If neither, you are, well, naive.
It's very, very hard for a traditional, full-service brokerage to go online. Huge political risks, very tough technology, unfamiliar (self-directed) investing metaphor, hostile market environment, prodigious competition, and heavy potential churn (thus, brokers try to make it difficult to leave). For ML, it will be extraordinarily difficult to make money online. That's why it has resisted.
Some even say ML is a dinosaur. We'll see. Meanwhile, we'll keep the lights on for the MKC online brokerage. Be sure to announce your grand opening.
