Kevin, >>> Anyone with opinions on other so called "bandwidth" chip companies like PMC-Sierra and Level One?<<<
I haven't, but looks like I should. Right off the top, I think I'd be afraid they'd correct big time like the internets themselves have started to. Also, in gorilla talk, there's very little barrier to entry into these chip companies' jungles. That is, of course for other chip companies like ADI, LSI or NSM.
One company that I think possesses a lot of the key indicators for G or K, and I saw them on top of an alphabetical list here is AMAT. Very little talk about them here. After their recent quarterly report, their chairman and CEO James Morgan, who's very conservative, said twice on a CNBC interview that they were gaining market share (I think it is also big time gaining). Pretty good for the already established king (that word again) of the semi equips. Main word of warning about the semi equips biz and their stocks is that they are (so far) very cyclical. The word was invented for them. Well, the semiconductor up cycle du Jour has already started and AMAT is the star big cap of the Nasdaq already this year, by about 2 to 1. (57% gain YTD, ORCL 28%).
I nominate AMAT for at least king, unless it already is.
I also need to read the GK book.
