John, the fact remains that I and others access the Internet through a local telephone call. I dont object if you want to argue that the rules, subsidies, and exemptions established for local vs long distance calls are now passe, but dont expect me to agree that my local connection should be based on a per minute fee when the teenage girl next door can talk to her boyfriend across town all night without depriving the rest of the world of bandwidth like I am allegedly doing. IMHO, we cannot differentiate between who's doing what with their local connection, and I must say that I was disappointed in your choice to blame "porno-fiends" for the telcos pathetic attempt to extract cash selectively from my pocket. Further, I found it an obvious giveaway when H&Q stated their belief in the potential to "transfer the internet from a chaotic science project into a reliable and secure network that can support mission-critical corporate and consumer applications". Excuse me? Ever hear of LANs and WANs? I guess the Internet is just another resource which we are being allowed to use temporarily until corparate America gets ready to rape it (and now apparently we're supposed to finance the rape).
This land was made for you and me.
