3Com to acquire PLPT???
by: Mayfest_Fanatic (48/M/Aspen, CO) 14051 of 14064

The following message was posted on PLPT's Yahoo forum recently. Anyone know if PLPT and 3Com are talking? I had heard that Unisys was actively talking with PLPT about acquiring them. Price was the only hangup.

"My crystal ball (which has been unbeleivably accurate lately) tells me that:

PLPT will be acquired by 3COM.

3COM will accept a dilutive deal.

PLPT will be sold for more than $250 million.

Aside from the obvious marketing reasons that would justify acquisitions from other companies (Siemens, Cisco etc.), the 3COM acquistion will be driven by two things:
Both companies have selected NT as a communications OS. 3COMs edge products and VoIP gateways are all based on NT.
EAP will be closely coupled with Palm Pilot based funtionality - pager, mail, etc. "
