All this talk of IRIDF untimely demise is depressing and (I hope and believe) premature.

Hope: because if IRIDFs securities keep heading south it bodes ill for other sat comms that need to raise money (including G* and some of Loral's customers and affiliates (like Skybridge) if not Loral)

Belief: because I think we're overreacting to a less than competent initial marketing effort coupled with to be expected start up problems. But Iridium is in a Marathon, not a 50yd dash and there should be time to recover. The only real analysis showing phone demand was less than supply was Jack Morgan's back of envelope (the one comparing 7K paying subscribers with 45K theoretical handset production, I belief); while interesting, such analysis doesn't account for handsets in the distribution pipeline, held up in customs, sales samples, etc. Iridium would be doing the right thing right now, IMO, if it was still loaning a hell of lot of hand sets to de facto beta testers and potential customers. Also, the US Govt is a planned large user of this service; is it counted in the 7K or the 45K? Like Maurice and for many of the same reasons I hold G*, not Iridium, but I believe Iridium will/should attract a lot of customers, even at its present price point (and I'm pretty sure they have a lot of room to cut the price of the phones if not the air time.) If I'm wrong, it's going to be a long 12-18 months for G* s/h.

Good luck and best wishes to all.
