I've been hanging around the alleys of SI since '95, Greg, so I've run into a lot of people. Jock and I were active on the lsi thread for several years. The stock was tanking, and he was a Raging Bull fighting off the encroaching tribe of bears. It got downright nasty, but Jock didn't give up any ground, and actually drove them off.
If you read his posts carefully, his Dell position was based on a perception of overvaluation, and he has never attacked dell's business model or long term growth potential. Some very bright dellheads, like the venerable Chuzz, came to the same conclusion and capitalized on it. For some reason, Jock has come to be characterized as a butthead dellbear, and gotten into a brawl with some of my favorite dellheads. I don't think he's a bear at all, just a hard ass debater.
But who am I to defend a lawyer <g>
