<<I don't see how it is helpful to tell people who live in the USA that people in other parts of the world don't use guns. The handgun is part of the U.S. culture, and so are rifles and shotguns.>>
Well, does everyone agree that simply because the United States is a young country where we used guns to protect ourselves and to slay the offending natives, that this never change? Obviously, we pay a huge price for our frontier mentality and love of violence, and I would argue that our society is very sick because of it. I hate this aspect of America, personally. Is it not possible that we could learn something from less violent countries? Is America always right, or best? I certainly don't think so. Is the phrase "America, right or wrong?" really the operative, definitive one?
Also, some of these other countries had more open gun laws, noticed a huge problem with people being killed, and changed their laws. Is America incapable of responding to public health problems? That certainly doesn't bode well for us, in my opinion. I am SO happy that the NAACP is considering joining the lawsuit in Chicago against the gun industry. It is about time! |
