I agree with you---but I think that Compaq witness was the biggest mistake for MSFT, when he mentioned that there was no alternative to Windows.
THe truth is that there is no alternative for Compaq but not the consumer. Apple is selling very well. There is nothing stopping CPQ from working out a deal with Apple to sell a MAC o/s or even Linux.
MACs have plenty of applications--you can get Office98 etc.
I think MSFT lawyers better point this out---they should use one their own witnesses (in charge of MAC products) who does not have a "email history" to rebut government's claims of monopoly power.

BTW-THis is the point that will help MSFT win on appeals, to show that there is no monopoly. IF that is done, there is no case against MSFT. MY concern is more to do with the short term stock behavior especially leading into earning and split----normally I would expect to make a fortune over the next 2 months but now I am cautious as some big funds might use this as an opportunity to reduce holdings.
