FINALLY, Microsoft blames its much publicized video demonstration woes in the federal antitrust trial last week on a bug.

After the contreptemps in Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson's court, Microsoft technicians were flown to Washington, DC, to determine why the PC in the Microsoft video had "Internet Explorer" instead of "Windows 98" on the browser's title bar.

Their answer: at some point the machine in the video had the Prodigy online service software installed and uninstalled. A bug in Prodigy or Windows uninstall feature altered the title display, according to Microsoft.

So in a reversal of Microsoft's position on many purported software problems -- it's not a feature, it's a bug.
