Hi,

Well! This surely is interesting stuff. But I sure don't have much of a clue as to who is right on this issue. I do have a thought though. There seems to be three or four ways to provide for the local loop to connect to the internet. While the pricing structure is probably not fair for internet connections over POTS, in the long run it probably won't matter much if the local usage charges are changed to per minute rates. If this happens one of the other alternative will become the connection of choice. Cable seems to think is is worthwhile to get into the fracas even knowing that everyone expects to connect fulltime for $20.00. Cable never turns off. Go ahead baby-bells/local phone company, raise the rates to .10/min or any other multiple and price yourself out of the local loop business for new lines, isdn connections, etc or anything else to do with the internet. They can't be that stupid.

I don't think we surfers are going to be legislated/priced out of our internet usage. We will just demand alternative connections. In fact, I can forsee a possible scenario where even most of our voice phone calls would bypass the POTS local loop if necessary. Wow, what power we have.

Just a thought
