I am assuming that your statistics refer to something else because
the idea of the specialist taking a position in SEG anywhere near 4 million shares is crazy. And the idea that the specialist would always have a short position is crazy. I don't have statistics because I don't think there are any to tell us who holds the short positions. If you or anybody else have any I would like to check them out.

And as far as the majority of short interest, I was referring to the total number of shares, not the actual number of positions. I think the funds hold the majority of short interest, as well as the biggest short positions, because they are the biggest players. They hold the biggest positions on the long side, stats are published on this (Bloomberg.com should have them).
