Steven, for Asia to break the D spiral, it must have its economic anchor, Japan consuming again. Japan is tied down in what seems to be a vicious cycle of decreasing confidence. Once confidence returns to Japan (and I have lost hope that the Government is going to make a concerted effort to stimulate consumption), the we can expect a slow and steady regrowth of the Asian middle class. Right now, the middle class, that same class that has learned to "want to buy things" is no longer in a position to do that. We have a good 5 years before major growth of the Asian middle class resumes, IMHO.
