I suspect the death rate decline was related to the unseasonably warm winter - up to late Dec in the US. Cold weather, shoveling snow and such is hard on folks. Jan and Feb have been anything but mild, so there could be a reaction the other way in this quarter's numbers. disclosure: I'm long LWN, the above does not represent expert opinion, and there's lots of risk in this puppy.
