Just got back for a weekend trip...sorry for the delay...

Don't know if anyone has answered your questions (haven't read all posts) but you can find some of your answers by accessing SI information on each company: click on profile at the top of the screen (on the EMC main page)...last I checked EMC was around a 50b market cap, Dell around 110b (although both, obviously, depend on the day)..the basic relationship (as of late) has been Dell a little more than 2x market cap (than EMC)...Sales around 4B (with a stated goal of 10b by 2001)..

Competition: Mainly IBM and Compaq...EMC being 3rd overall...but 1st in some segments (I believe external storage being one, but don't quote me on that..)..Yes, you could say EMC has less competition...as far I know, there isnt a "white box" for these big storage units (yet) or if there is, nowhere near the extent of PCs..apparantly in some segments EMC holds some bit of an advantage...Needless to say, there are a lot more companies making PC's out there (although one could argue that in the large corporate market, Dell's primary market, there are far fewer players...only a handful really (not including resellers..of which there are many, of course)..

Best articles? Suggest you run a search on any of the major publications (Fortune, Business Week, ZDNet, etc) or go back on this thread and find the links, or look at the articles section at the top of the main EMC page...

JHG in KC...I am a bit surprised that you did not do this (some of the steps I listed) BEFORE you invested in EMC...Not trying to sound arrogant here, but I would not recommend putting your hard-earned money in any company unless you understand, at a minimum, some of what i have listed and/or have researched the things already...I wouldn't ever rely solely on tips....Hope I haven't misunderstood your post here...Good luck to you...
