paul - i'm no constitutional lawyer, but just taking those words literally it does seem to me to say "No state shall .... make anything but gold and silver coin ..." - doesn't seem to specifically prohibit the feds from doing as they please. Unless you take the word 'state' in its generic sense ... and it doesn't look like that was the intended meaning.

With respect to the food fights - Hutch and Bill Murphy and Ron Reece and ole 49r are extremely bright and informed people, they've all made some great calls and they've all made some bad ones. And it all goes together to make some fine reading, which i hope continues.
Ron could maybe be a little less voluminous.
Bill could maybe be a little more open-minded and show some proof of big net gold shorts.
Hutch and 49r could maybe be a little less quick to anger and retort.
And I could maybe mind my own business, and keep my mouth shut.
But hey - where's the fun in that.
