It is a little surprising. I thought Qualcomm would never admit that Ericsson actually has a case. "Patent swap" implies that they would not charge Ericsson full licensing fees for CDMA applications. That sounds suspiciously like a compromise, something it's hard to believe will be achieved without litigation after all the acrimony

It would sound plausible that GSM/IS-95 worldphone is what is driving Qualcomm's interest in GSM. But that's still a GSM phone, an area where they have no expertise. It would be interesting to see which would be a bigger challenge - Qualcomm adapting to GSM or Ericsson adapting to IS-95.
