Nokia and Pannon GSM sign Euro 50 million frame agreement for expansion in Hungary

HELSINKI, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 1999--Nokia and the leading operator in Hungary, Pannon GSM, have extended their long-term frame agreement for the supply of GSM equipment, in a deal worth approximately Euro 50 million.

Nokia will supply GSM network infrastructure equipment to Pannon GSM, including Nokia mobile switching centres, base stations and base station controllers. Under the two year agreement, Nokia will also provide Intelligent Network (IN) and wireless data solutions, for advanced value-added services throughout Hungary. In addition, a range of customer services will be supplied, covering implemetation and technical support.

"With this further addition to our digital network, our customers will benefit from wider network coverage as well as an expanded range of the latest value-added services," says Mr. Bjorn J. Flakstad, CEO, Pannon GSM.

"The close co-operation between Pannon and Nokia makes the Pannon network a very high quality GSM 900 network," says Kari Lahtinen, Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications Hungary. "Nokia will remain the sole supplier to the Pannon network and this contract continues the co-operation that began between us in 1993."

Pannon GSM has been service provider since March 1994. The number of their subscribers exceeded 420,000 at the beginning of 1999. The company employs more than 760 people. Pannon GSM has business contacts to 103 GSM operators in 57 countries.
