Now of course, it is below $1,000 and the customer is carting more with him as he exits (printer, scanner, etc).
Earlie, please tell me which top 5 (or even top 10) pc vendor currently has an ASP below $1000? Also, the printer/scanner etc. bundle typical in today's "consumer" offerings, isn't realy free is it? Isn't the retailer the one actually offering the bundle (at some adder price), and really just pushing the sale through at what is some lower overall margin?
Some of the PC producers (Dell, especially) now include their sales of routers and servers in calculating ASP. As these are larger and more expensive machines, it makes the reported ASP look better.
Is DELL a good example hre? They haven't been selling "servers" very long anyway. And I guess I don't see the problem with averaging servers into ASP. DELL (or anyone) would love nothing better than to sell 100% of there machines as servers.
And BTW, DELL doesn't sell routers. Maybe you meant something else.
While it is not yet officially confirmed by a Dataquest type organization, it is obvious that the PC industry did experience net negative revenues for 1998. By the way, this year will be MUCH worse.
I don't think it has to be confirmed. It is pretty obvious that industry revs shrank. If you can, please quantify how much worse this year might be. Thanks.
