I had read Alan Eckert's Frontiersman and loved it, though it was grim at times. One summer (1973 I think) I was in the cast of a new outdoor drama and my first husband was assistant director. It was Tecumseh in Chillicothe, Ohio, and because it was the first staging, the author was there to iron out any problems. I sat, mouth hanging open, awed by every word that fell from his lips--it was ALan Eckert. He was very friendly and funny and nice. Not that I had the nerve to talk to him.
