AOL Most Popular Web Site In January
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The most popular Internet destinations for U.S. Web surfers in January 1999 were America Online Inc. (NYSE:AOL - news)'s aol.com, Yahoo! Inc.'s yahoo.com and Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news)'s mcn.com, Web metering company Media Metrix Inc., said Monday.
AOL's family of Web sites topped the Media Metrix list of the most popular ''Digital Media/Web properties,'' including all the Web sites under one ''brand'' name, or the consolidation of multiple sites that fall under common ownership.
New York-based Media Metrix calculates that in the ''Total Universe'' of Web surfers, there are 58.3 million ''unique visitors,'' up from 56.8 million in December.
Unique Visitors are the actual number of users who visited a site once in a month. All Unique Visitors are only counted once.
Media Metrix said there are 63.2 million people in the Digital Media universe, which includes Web surfers, as well as users of proprietary online services, e-mail services, and other non-Web based, advertising supported digital applications.
Media Metrix' December Web Properties report did not include those Digital Media users. Top 25 Digital Media/Web Properties: January 1998 Measurement Period, (1/1/99 through 1/31/99) Combined At Home and At Work Rank Digital Media/Web Property Unique Visitors(000) 1 AOL Network-Proprietary |
