Plug and Play

RE: "I have a 3DFX Voodoo 2 card with 12 megs, an 8.2 gig IDE drive, two SCSI hard drives, a ZIP drive, a DVD drive, 96 megs of ram, and an LCD monitor, plus and older laser jet printer and a new 56K modem. Windows 98 detected all of this on its own, no effort on my part."

Windows falls a bit short in the plug and play arena. If you stick in something as simple as a floppy disk, nothing happens. The Windows OS is too stupid to know what to do with it.

The poor user has to manually mount it on the desk top by hunting down the port it is likely to be connected to.

Other operating systems have been doing right by users going on 15 years.

PS: I think it's good advice not to fall in love with any stock. IMHO, MSFT is for buying and selling, not personal computing. Lets make some bucks. :-)
