SEQUENCIA CORPORATION ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR THE MICROSOFT
WINDOWS DISTRIBUTED INTERNET APPLICATIONS ARCHITECTURE FOR
MANUFACTURING

Using Windows DNA-M Suite of Technologies Enables Sequencia to
Provide Process Manufacturers with Better Software, Faster

SEATTLE (February 23, 1999) – Sequencia Corporation, a leader in automation solutions for
Global 1000 process manufacturers, today announced its support of Microsoft's Windows
Distributed InterNet Applications for Manufacturing (Windows DNA for Manufacturing)
architecture and is currently developing its plant floor/enterprise resource planning (ERP)
integration solutions on the Windows DNA for Manufacturing framework. Windows DNA for
Manufacturing provides Sequencia with open standards for application development, which in
turn provides reliable solutions for Sequencia's end users in the process industries. These
solutions will be available beginning second quarter 1999.

"Developing applications on the Windows DNA for Manufacturing platform not only benefits
Sequencia, but has both direct and indirect advantages for our customers," notes Michael
Saucier, Sequencia's founder and chairman. "The DNA architecture leverages Microsoft's
expertise at the platform level, allowing us to concentrate our development resources on building
the plant floor to ERP agile manufacturing solutions that are Sequencia's intellectual property and
primary advantage. There has always been strong acceptance in our customer base for
Microsoft technology, and we fully endorse the DNA-M framework."

"Microsoft is pleased to see Sequencia's strong application development while utilizing the
Windows DNA for Manufacturing framework," says Marcus Schmidt, industry marketing
manager for manufacturing at Microsoft Corp. "By building with Windows DNA for
Manufacturing, Sequencia will be able to provide their customers with fully integrated plant
information systems to ERP technology solutions that can easily scale to meet their growing
business needs."

Sequencia Solutions

Sequencia provides two principal solutions comprised of software and services for the plant
level and enterprise level. The plant-level product, OpenBatch, allows customers to create
recipes, execute production orders, and complete detailed production reporting, enabling the
automation of the plant. Leading industry analysts have validated that OpenBatch is the dominant
solution in the batch automation and management segment.

The enterprise-level software products build on the core competencies of real-time plant floor
recipe management and execution. The initial product, EnterpriseBatch Production Manager, is
the "golden thread" that connects the real-time plant floor systems with the transaction-oriented
business systems (such as SAP's R/3). As opposed to a toolkit that must be configured and
provides inconsistent results from project to project, Production Manager is a productized,
upgradeable solution that transforms, filters, and synchronizes the information between the two
environments consistently and accurately.

Windows DNA

Windows DNA is a technology infrastructure that enables independent solution vendors (ISVs)
and organizations to solve industry-specific challenges, while lowering costs associated with
deploying and managing information technology systems. The Windows DNA architecture is a
comprehensive framework for new business solutions that combines the benefits of the Internet,
client/server and PC models of computing. Representing a unified and integrated approach for
building distributed, scalable, multi-tier applications, the Windows DNA framework allows
organizations to focus on producing and implementing value-added business solutions rather than
systems integration.
