Siemens Demonstrates Local and Long-Haul Transport
Solutions at Optical Fiber Communications Conference

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 1999--Continuing its push into the North
American transport market, Siemens Information and Communication Networks Inc. will demonstrate
its innovative optical networking solutions at The Optical Fiber Communications Conference (OFC),
Feb. 23-27, at the San Diego Convention Center.

Visitors to the Siemens booth (No. 2529) at the OFC '99 exhibition can view live demonstrations that illustrate how service providers can enhance
their network performance and reduce costs with Siemens' local and long-haul transport solutions.

Premiered at NFOEC '98, TransXpress Infinity is an ultra-high capacity, dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) solution that answers
the market need for increased bandwidth, cost efficiency and open platforms.

At OFC, Siemens will highlight TransXpress Infinity's powerful 10 Gb/s Optical Electrical Regenerator. An interactive demonstration will
demonstrate the regenerator's superior optical performance with a guaranteed bit error rate (BER) of 10-13 at an optical signal-to-noise ratio of
only 23 dB. TransXpress Infinity's Optical Electrical Regenerator is one of the most compact systems on the market today with full 4-by-4 density
housed in a single subrack.

The TransXpress Infinity system combines high-performance features on an open DWDM platform, and its compact modular design makes it
particularly attractive to Inter-exchange carriers. It can haul data at 320+ Gb/s and transport information for 600 km over non-dispersion shifted
fiber without regeneration -- the longest transmission length capability of any available product with similar capacity throughput.

Siemens also will feature a live demonstration of its TransXpress ALine solution, a multi-service fiber optic transport system. In the demonstration,
TransXpress ALine's clients/server configuration has ATM traffic feeding a video stream over an OC-3c line rate, as well as synchronous traffic
over a T1 trunk. TransXpress ALine is able to allocate OC-3c bandwidth at sub-OC-3c levels to multiple users rather than dedicating the complete
OC-3c bandwidth to one user. This streamlining capability results in significant operational cost savings for service providers supporting multiple
users off a single OC-3c connection.

Ideal for business and campus applications, TransXpress ALine combines synchronous optical network (SONET) and asynchronous transfer
mode (ATM) technologies on a single platform, allowing an unparalleled degree of efficiency and control. The TransXpress ALine local transport
system provides today's operators with a superior, more flexible way to provision, manage and protect their most valuable resource - bandwidth.

Optical Networks, a division of Siemens Information and Communication Networks, designs and develops state-of-the-art optical transport
systems for the North American market. Since its inception in October 1997, the Optical Networks division has launched two innovative optical
transport solutions. TransXpress ALine is a multi-service, local transport system that combines synchronous optical network (SONET) and
asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technologies on a single platform. TransXpress Infinity is an ultra-high capacity, dense wavelength division
multiplexing (DWDM) transport solution that delivers more data at faster speeds over greater distances than traditional systems.

Siemens Information and Communication Networks Inc., headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla., is a leading provider of information and
telecommunications solutions to public network service providers and enterprise customers in North America. The company is a subsidiary of
Siemens AG, a global business with $66 billion in sales in the fiscal year ended September 1998.

Siemens is a registered trademark of Siemens AG. TransXpress is a trademark of Siemens AG.
