I don't short or trade options, so my returns will be limited. But the risks are more tolerable as well. Some margin is used for leverage. Tripling your money consistently month after month can not be achieved without leverage and much higher degrees of risk. 50% can be had with minimal risk. Regarding the past several months. Many small-cap charts show steep upswings after being flat for most of last year. Obviously, the "January Effect". More fine tuning may be needed to capitalize on the leveling out and less dramatic swings.
