Michelle, IMHO, the E commerce is simply faster catalogues. Dell's web site sells boxes that would otherwise be sold through the ads in magazines. It is nice, but not earth shattering. I take it you have not been to Compaq.com.

I would fear for Dell shareholders if Dell tries to sell other products at losses like Amazon. After all, the Dell folks are used to profits. That is why I think they will use the subsidiary/separate co. bit that MU uses for MUEI.

I think this new form of catalogue shopping is o.k. until the taxes come and the novelty wears off. All E commerce in 1998 was less than one quarter at Wal-Mart. Not to be scoffed at, but hardly revolutionary.
