Packers agree to terms with free agent G Raleigh McKenzie
GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN (TICKER) -- Green Bay Packers coach Ray Rhodes today turned to a familiar face to fill his team's vacancy at guard.
The Packers agreed to terms with veteran free agent Raleigh McKenzie on a multi-year contract at undisclosed terms.
McKenzie, 36, played for Rhodes with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1995 and 1996 and is the twin brother of Reggie McKenzie, Green Bay's director of pro personnel.
Raleigh McKenzie is expected to replace Adam Timmerman, who left via free agency and signed a five-year deal with the St. Louis Rams last week. A member of Super Bowl championship teams with the Washington Redskins in 1987 and 1991, McKenzie has played 126 consecutive games, starting all 16 in each of the past seven seasons.
The 6-2, 283-pounder has played all five offensive line positions during a 14-year career that began with Washington in 1985. Last season, McKenzie started eight games at right tackle after Vaughn Parker went down with a broken leg. The previous year, he started all 16 games at center.
In others move, the Packers re-signed quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to a multi-year contract, signed free agent receiver Tyrone Goodson and waived linebacker Anthony Hicks. Hasselbeck, a 1998 sixth-round pick, spent last season on the practice squad after appearing in three preseason games.
