TO ALL: This RR has plenty of very competent managing, corporate development and operating personnel. What we really need is a pipeline into the power base that will drive the switch from trucks to rail.

There are powerful interests in Elizabeth and Newark and in the trucking industry who wish to continue picking up goods in NJ and beating up the bridges and tunnels to get to NYC. (More miles for them. The expensive infrastructure is in place and needs to be amortized.) Loading up on Long Island is not as attractive to them. But they will have to do it when they are forced to do it. We need that forcing power firmly in our pocket.

My previous post about Virginia trash was about corporate development. This post is more about the politics of NYC.
