CNBC Europe "Techno Watch" program, hosted by Editor Rosalie Nelson gives a detailed round-up of tech sector news. The made no mention of the e-commerce reseller news. This morning they featured the developing war of words between CPQ and DELL.
For CPQ, they featured the London conference. They listed the acquisition of the Swedish encrypton firm, ID2, along with CPQ's acquistion of Zip2.com and Shopping.com and played again the interview with EP in which he said that through ownership of AV, CPQ would get early warning of trends in the internet and be able to develops products and servcies. They cited CPO's claims that recent market surveys showed that it had a growing market share based on its own internet sales efforts. They showed working pictures of what they decsribed as a handheld device for accessing the internet. For DELL, they showed an interview with a senior executive who explicitly crticised CPQ. He said that just a year ago it announced itself as the provider of enterprise solutions, a major new enterprise company, following its acquisition of DEC. Now it was calling itself an "internet company". He thought this was confusing and he suggested that CPQ didn't know what it was doing with its great size and resources. The report went on to say that DELL would stick with being a maker and seller of PC's fulfilling customers needs, quickly and inexpensively.
