ESAT Digifone Signs US$45 Million Supply Agreement With Nortel Networks

Ireland National GSM Operator to Expand Capacity, Coverage, Services

CANNES, FRANCE, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ - ESAT Digifone, Ireland's second GSM 900 operator, has signed a US$45 million (32 million Punts) supply agreement with Nortel Networks (NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL) to expand the capacity, coverage and services of its nationwide wireless network.

Announced today at the GSM World Congress, the agreement calls for Nortel Networks to supply, install and commission new switching equipment and several hundred new cell sites throughout Ireland.

''As we aggressively expand our subscriber base, we know we will be able to count on Nortel Networks to support us 100 percent of the way.''

This is a significant milestone for Digifone,'' said Cesar Cesaratto, president, Wireless Solutions, EMEA, Nortel Networks. ''With the installation of this equipment, they now have the required network infrastructure and value added services in place to continue to grow their business.''

The equipment to be provided includes high performance Nortel Networks S8000 radio base stations, which provide crystal clear voice quality with industry leading receive sensitivity and EFR (Enhanced Full Rate Vocoder) technology. Digifone subscribers will enjoy the benefits of full digital communications with quality comparable to that of fixed networks.

Digifone will also add additional capacity to its Nortel Networks ServiceBuilder Intelligent Networks platform.
