You probably know the other E-P, Sir E-P. He had accepted me into his programme in May for the following September when I was still finishing off something else in another subject. To prepare myself I took the initiative to read Stanislau Malinowski and the Trobrianders and tried to do a critique of his socio-biological functional analysis. It was probably the most intense work I ever did in the subject. E-P was always interested in things like the couvade. He once told a tutorial group how bored he was as a young man at the Pitt-Rivers Museum having to measure the cubic capacity of skulls - he said he would have preferred to measure you know what.
