Floating Images, Westbury, N.Y., startup company, said it has
developed what it claims is first affordable technology for "true
3-D" imaging without glasses. Company has produced prototype
accessory and software for TV and PC monitors that it will unveil
at electronic imaging convention in San Jose in Feb. Founder-Pres.
* Eugene Dolgoff, ex-Projectavision, indicated that first software
capable of use with accessory won't reach shelves until Christmas
1998. Likely first target for under-$100 accessory will be PC and
dedicated console videogame market, he said, and company already
has met with Sega of America officials. Dolgoff also said company
has held discussions with Microsoft on incorporating 3-D imaging in
productivity software. He hopes eventually to convince broadcasters
to incorporate software in programming so that technology can be
marketed as TV accessory, although he conceded that isn't likely to
happen until turn of century.
