Informix and Westbrook Technologies Unite to Offer Document Management with High-Performance Database Engine
Combined Solution Powers Billion Dollar Argentine Bank
MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999--Informix® Corporation (Nasdaq:IFMX - news), the technology leader in enterprise database-powered solutions, and Westbrook Technologies today announced that Banco Hipotecario S.A., one of Argentina's leading mortgage banks, has selected Informix Dynamic Server(TM), the high-performance database engine and Fortis(TM), Westbrook's powerful document management system, as the database solution to power bank operations.
By combining its day-to-day operations on Informix Dynamic Server with the efficiency of document management, the bank is turning more than 30 million paper documents into electronic images that will ultimately accelerate customer service delivery and in-house data processing.
About the Banco Hipotecario Solution
Banco Hipotecario S.A. is one of Argentina's largest mortgage banks. The bank's assets total $4.67 billion in addition to a 41.6 percent share of the entire mortgage market.
The bank's phenomenal growth and corresponding increased volume of loan documents created a massive paper problem that required a document management technology solution with advanced scalability. The bank turned to File Solution SA, a Westbrook Business Partner in Buenos Aires, to identify a document management solution that could solve the paper problem and interface effectively with the bank's existing database platform.
Having already successfully deployed Informix Dynamic Server across the enterprise to manage over 120 million records, the bank strongly encouraged Westbrook to incorporate the Informix engine as the ideal back end for the Fortis product suite. In response, Fortis for Informix was developed and is now available to meet the needs of all Fortis customers looking for an enterprise wide, high-performance document management platform.
''All of the bank's databases are Informix. We felt that the powerful combination of our proven Informix database with Fortis for document imaging was the ideal solution to electronically manage this volume of documents with the rapid delivery we required,'' said Carlos Freitas, Banco Hipotecario's executive archive chief.
With the new Fortis for Informix system in place, the bank intends to convert 250,000 records, each containing about 120-140 pages of information, into electronic images that will then be used for delivering improved customer service and streamlined internal operations.
''Uniting Informix and Fortis gives Banco Hipotecario ultimate scalability with a powerful, feature-rich back end. We have a database that delivers enterprise-powered performance with client/server document management software that will bring a greater level of organization, productivity and efficiency throughout the institution,'' said Juan del Rio, Banco Hipotecario's system manager.
''Informix strongly supports the new addition to the Fortis suite as an outstanding solution for enterprise environments running mission-critical applications. We believe that Banco Hipotecario made the best choice for bank customers in selecting Fortis applications coupled with Informix Dynamic Server to accelerate business growth and increase efficiencies,'' said Leonardo Gannio, Informix country manager in Argentina.
''We knew adding Informix as a database option to Fortis was the right choice because the product and company are an industry-recognized leader in database technology,'' said Steve Luster, director of marketing with Westbrook Technologies.
''By unifying the power of Informix with Fortis, we can offer organizations the business process improvements of a document management solution with a database back end.''
Before designating Informix as a certified Fortis option, Westbrook staff subjected Informix Dynamic Server to rigorous compatibility testing. Informix Dynamic Server passed a 60-day certification process which included development support and extensive quality assurance testing by Westbrook's QA Department. The Informix and Westbrook solution resides on a Windows NT hardware platform.
