Open Text Introduces Livelink Activator for BASIS
New Product Unites Industry-leading Collaborative
Knowledge Management With Market-leading Document Management Systems
WATERLOO, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999--Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX - news; TSE:OTC - news) today announced the release of Livelink Activator for BASIS. Livelink Activator for BASIS extends the power and flexibility of Livelink to the BASIS community. BASIS databases, records, documents and pre-defined queries are tightly integrated with Livelink knowledge management features such as folders, project workflows, discussions, task lists, enterprise-wide file distribution, and workspaces.
BASIS is used to manage large collections of catalogued information in special libraries and corporate information centers. BASIS is one of the industry's leading document management applications, according
to International Data Corporation (IDC). It was originally developed by Information Dimensions, which was acquired by Open Text Corporation in June 1998 and is now a completely integrated division of Open
Text.
''Our research has highlighted the key role of the knowledge broker in the internetworked organization,'' said Hadley Reynolds, Director of Research at The Delphi Group, Boston, MA. ''In many of the new
intranets, the knowledge broker role has fallen naturally to the corporate library function, and Open Text's BASIS software is an established tool of choice in this area. Dynamic linkage between the professionally managed information resources of BASIS and the Livelink corporate portal will help capture the value of brokered knowledge at the front lines of business operations.''
BASIS customers can use Livelink Activator for BASIS without making any changes to their existing database. They can easily integrate their BASIS application with Livelink, including BASIS Techlib, an
integrated library management application. The activator works with BASIS databases on Unix, Windows NT, and VMS.
''BASIS advances Open Text's information center and corporate library vertical specialization,'' said Bill Forquer, Vice-President, BASIS Division, Open Text Corporation. ''With Livelink Activator for BASIS,
we are providing a path for BASIS customers to take full advantage of their investment while adding Livelink's collaborative knowledge management through seamless integration.''
BASIS continues to be enhanced and sold as an independent product. The activator presents a new Livelink-based interface to current BASIS repositories. In addition, Livelink customers now have a familiar
interface to one of the most powerful library and document management tools in the industry.
''The power of BASIS and Livelink individually is quite incredible. But when you combine the two, the sum of the parts is greater than the whole,'' said Peter Cullen, Client Services Director of InfoVista, a
BASIS and Livelink integrator. ''The smoothness of the integration leads to increased flexibility with BASIS as the repository and Livelink providing the collaborative functions.''
Pricing and Availability
Livelink Activator for BASIS is available immediately. It is priced at US$25,000 per Livelink server.
