; Aventail To Be The First Extranet
Vendor to Support BorderManager Enterprise Edition 3 Suite

Business/Technology Editors

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999--Realizing customers must
extend their enterprise across corporate boundaries, Aventail
Corporation, the leading provider of Extranet Management and Security
(EMS) software, and Novell, Inc. (Nasdaq:NOVL), the leader in
directory-enabled network and security management solutions, jointly
announced that all existing and new Novell BorderManager Enterprise
Edition 3 customers will be able to secure all TCP/IP-based extranet
traffic by utilizing Aventail's client software, Aventail Connect.

This partnership reflects Aventail's commitment with Novell to
provide industry-leading security solutions.

"Our partnership with Aventail reinforces our commitment to
provide leading partner security products that work seamlessly with
BorderManager Enterprise Edition," stated Patrick Harr, director of
Internet product marketing for Novell. "Combining BorderManager
Enterprise Edition's leading directory-enabled security features --
firewall, VPN, authentication and caching services -- with Aventail
Connect's best-of-breed extranet security client delivers an unmatched
security solution for our enterprise customers implementing
extranets."

Extending BorderManager with Aventail For Secure Extranet

Communications

The firewall component, offered in BorderManager Enterprise
Edition, interoperates with Aventail Connect to secure network access
for customers, suppliers, vendors and other remote users over the
Internet. By utilizing SOCKS v5 technology in BorderManager and SOCKS
v5 client from Aventail, corporations can now secure all applications
that are IP-based, including legacy host, mainframe, Java,
CORBA-based, custom corporate, and client/server applications from
vendors such as SAP (NYSE:SAP), BAAN (Nasdaq:BAANF), Oracle
(Nasdaq:ORCL), and PeopleSoft (Nasdaq:PSFT). In addition, corporate
users who are working within a third-party's organization can
communicate seamlessly through disparate firewalls using
MultiProxy(tm), one of the latest features of Aventail Connect. Users
can traverse one firewall through the standard HTTP port for Web
traffic and enter their BorderManager firewall through the open SOCKS
port. Aventail Connect also extends Novell's security with support for
username/password authentication and SSL encryption.

"We're excited to work with Novell's BorderManager Enterprise
Edition suite for secure extranet deployments and look forward to
further integration with NDS, LDAP and PKI environments," stated Rob
Spence, director of product marketing for Aventail Corporation. "This
relationship opens up new opportunities for BorderManager customers by
allowing them to extend communication out to partners utilizing the
functionalities of Aventail Connect."

A Comprehensive Solution for Securing the Extended Enterprise

Based on Aventail's award-winning VPN client, Aventail Connect
makes no modifications to the desktop and allows seamless traversal of
firewalls on any corporate network including Check Point Software
Technologies Ltd.'s (Nasdaq:CHKPF) Firewall-1/VPN-1, Axent
Technologies' (Nasdaq:AXNT) Raptor Firewall, Novell's BorderManager
Firewall 3 and IBM's (NYSE:IBM) eNetwork Firewall. Aventail Connect
is available on all Windows platforms including Windows 3.1, Windows
95, Windows 98, and Windows NT Workstation.

Aventail Connect is available through Aventail's worldwide sales
team and Aventail's Extranet Advantage VAR partners.
