PALM SPRINGS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999--Veridicom Inc., a Lucent Technologies spin-off and the leading provider of silicon-based fingerprint authentication solutions, Tuesday announced that it is debuting two new technologies and showcasing an array of applications to enable secure, next-generation mobile platforms at the Spring '99 Intel Developer Forum (IDF). The company also will demonstrate improved user authentication to complement Intel's enhanced security architecture.
The new technologies Veridicom is introducing include a breakthrough DFX Imaging Module, featuring advanced image capture and enhancement software that dramatically improves the ability to image hard-to-read fingers.
Veridicom also is now offering OEM versions of fingerprint authentication security suites: a Windows 95/98 suite designed for consumer, retail and business markets; and a Windows NT suite that supports smart cards, designed for business and professional markets.
These products complement Veridicom's growing arsenal of security solutions, which includes BIOS pre-boot fingerprint authentication developed in conjunction with Phoenix Technologies and a full range of OEM products that include USB and parallel port peripherals, as well as PCMCIA peripherals with smart cards.
"IDF is a great opportunity to show developers firsthand that Veridicom's OpenTouch(TM) technology is a sophisticated, yet simple way to use fingerprint authentication in applications from mobile to enterprise computing," said Michael D'Amour, president and CEO of Veridicom.
"Fingerprint authentication provides privacy, along with data and network access privileges, while offering unequaled convenience. In addition, Veridicom's patented technology, open architecture and commitment to standards make us an ideal technology partner for a broad range of computing platforms."
To facilitate the adoption of fingerprint authentication technology, Veridicom also is working on a standard interface as an extension to Intel's existing Common Data Security Architecture (CDSA). CDSA is a security framework for data security on PCs, workstations and servers that has been established to enable e-commerce and Internet transactions.
The Open Group, a global standards body, adopted CDSA as an industry standard for the development of secure applications that are interoperable, extensible and offer cross-platform support.
