I don't know if I posted to this thread, but Thanksgiving weekend, 1997, when we were coming back from sightseeing at Harper's Ferry, my husband hit a deer in our new Saab. It was on Route 7 in Loudoun County, in the Sterling, Va. area, which has a heavily built up corridor of strip malls, but rural otherwise. It was horrible. We were lucky that he managed to sideswipe it, the highway was three lanes in either direction and the traffic was quite heavy. Both doors on the driver's side were smashed in, both windows completely smashed, and the front windshield, too. I was sitting in the back seat, and both my husband and I were covered with broken class, but only got minor cuts. Thank God we did not strike it head on.
That experience, and the blizzards, are why I got a Land Rover, which sits high up off the ground. If I hit a deer, even head on, I don't think it will come through my windshield, at least. |
