Well, there should be no need to wipe the drive clean, and if it's a similar board, you should be fine.

Problems arise fairly often when upgrading (for example) a P100, to a PII-350. The change in boards will often mean newer chipsets, IDE controllers, and driver conflicts/problems pop up out of nowhere.

Considering the circumstances, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
