The Nokia phone may be OK for viewing information that is easily formatted to fit on the small screen. However, a web page must be stripped down, chopped up, and scrolled to fit. Compare the resolution to full VGA. But it's something, enough that they can claim the phone displays Internet content. So, for this application, Nokia creates the impression of being positioned out in front.

MOT and KOPN announced their alliance 9/4/97 and they were working together before that. The cellphone viewer is one of the major applications involved. Switching to a virtual display is a radical design change, so time has been stretched out due to qualification procedures and risk-aversion in general on the part of MOT. Perhaps they still deserve the benefit of the doubt, but it's a bit discouraging to see how slowly MOT moves relative to their competitors. As far as Nokia is concerned - their phone may increase consumer awareness and highlight the limitations of the small screen wrt high information content applications.
