To all especially new people: Excerpt from an IBD article on Monday on "let your winners run" "Stocks that move hgher have a rhythm. The stock's price will move higher and then pull back and then repeat the process. On a chart, the stock will rise, go sideways or base, then move up again. "Take Microsoft, going back the past two years. "The computer software stock rose in early 1997 from 43 to a peak of about 70 by July 1997. It based the rest of the year and finally emerged late in January 1998. The stock then climbed to 119 by July. It based again, emerged once more in November and sprinted to 151. In about two years Msft rose almost 250%. "Two strategic points to remenber: first a stock needs time to make a big gain. Second a stock will rise and then base or correct. Studies have shown that many stocks spend 33% of the time going up or down and 66% going sideways. So patience is a must during basing periods." They could have written about DELL. When I bought msft at 137 it shortly thereafter went down to 118 but eventually doubled within the year. The point is if you string yourself out heavily on margin when the stock is at its highs you are asking for trouble because even without any bad news stocks just have a pattern of retreating sometimes! When a new high is reached, thats the signal for some to get out so it retreats! Best wishes and good luck to all. I need some good luck too and a dip to buy those pesky cov calls back.
