Controversial accountant and offshore financier Steven Scott Brown has been expelled from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia for failing to carry professional liability insurance. The association notes that Mr. Brown's malpractice insurance lapsed on Dec. 31, and he failed to renew his coverage, a requirement of membership. Mr. Brown responded to a request from
the association, but after he failed to provide proof of coverage, he was expelled on Feb. 17. Mr. Brown is wanted for questioning in the disappearance of millions of dollars of clients' funds. Using several companies based in the Turks and Caicos Islands, he invested in private placements of a number of Vancouver Stock Exchange-listed companies, including Breckenridge Resources, Pacific Vangold Mines and Mongolia Gold Resources.
The companies have denied any knowledge of any wrongdoing related to the dealings of Mr. Brown, who used several employee fronts. The expulsion comes two months after the accounting association "extraordinarily suspended" Mr. Brown in mid-December. The controversial accountant has the right to appeal the actions to the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
