It occurs to me that Niles knew about the slip--he's not stupid; even his worst detractors acknowledge he is a very smart individual. So who is to say he has to use his new-found cachet from the Dell pronouncement for the forces of good? All he cares about is making money. He can make just as much (or more) money by being wrong at precisely the right time.

1) Establish a large position
2) Use newly burnished reputation to boost the stock
3) Exit with a tidy and quick profit before the announcement
4) If he's wrong, he's made alot of money (and people shrug, saying "well, he got Dell right, 1 out of 2 aint bad"). If he's right, hey, his reputation ratchets up a few more notches (and he still made money).

Sound far-fetched? Probably (big sigh), but I have made two major blunders in the last week, the first time by not trusting Niles, and the second time by believing him.
