I think the biggest problem is that TCA is a very expensive way to keep people alive. HMO's and the US government, do not necessarily fully reimburse hospitals for this procedure. In addition, mortality on the device can be as high as 70% depending on the hospital. From a public policy perspective, it may be more cost effective to enhance immunizations or prenatal care than spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on this device.
