Oh, I completely agree that the housing inflation due to stock inflation is specific to austin, seattle, and the san fran bay area. Do you think it's a coincidence that 26 year olds are buying run down shacks around the valley area for 1 mil + in cash? They werent doing that before 1995 and netscape's stock explosion. Austin's housing market was relatively sane until Dell's stock went through the roof. Seattle's market was tough to begin with, but it has gotten MUCH worse with literally 10's of thousands of microsoft millionaires..

The funny thing about the bay area in particular is that in order for these internut stock millionaires to live in a really nice house, they have to literally spend 5-10 million dollars.. Whereas anywhere else in the country the same house with 10x the backyard space would cost about 250 grand. So all that wealth goes to waste because the cost of living is so skewed in the valley by other people making insane stock money. Of course, the new paradigm is to take the money and leave the valley altogether.
