A word about Metabyte...

These guys were ready to go with V3 for this technology before the STBI thing. They were pissed as hell about the merger. 3dfx knew about this well before the merger and must have made a decision that it wasn't important enough. Now Metabyte is a very small company that 3dfx probably could have bought instead of throwing their money away in a dead-end market with Quantum3d. (Just my opinion here. Although I love Quantum's goods, I consider them a poor investment.) 3dfx made a conscious effort to ignore Metabyte SLI. Why? I don't really know. Maybe they had technology that was better. If that sounds like wishful thinking it probably is. I didn't hear Tomasi saying you could SLI AGP. Quite the opposite.

Here's what I do know. This stock continues to decline on lack of real OEM announcements, slacking 3d feature sets, and a declining retail market, all surrounded by uncertainty from the merger. I expect the TNT SLI solution to have some compatibility problems with performance on par with Voodoo3. TNT was never really faster than a single Voodoo2 to begin with. The expanded feature set should be the killer though.

3dfx has been burning millions of dollars per quarter to achieve this new technology. Come March 15th if I don't think that technology is the Michael Jordan of the industry I'll ditch every last share.

I'm tired...so very tired...of waiting for 3dfx to pull the rabbit out of the hat and getting a rabid squirrel instead. I've reached the point where the next hat pulling requires a golden fleeced rabbit. Am I being to hard on 3dfx? Probably. They've performed admirably under the circumstances, but it is my money. For 3dfx to move forward (and with it my money) they eventually must move forward with their technology. It's time to cut the Voodoo coat-tails and show me the money.

Pat

P.S. Where do I pre-order the TNT sli if it's available soon? Thought so. Don't for a second think that NVIDIA had nothing to do with the leak right before V3 launch.
