Agree with you whisperer!
Quite a few companies try to gather as many domain names as they can surrounding their Company domain 1) because they are trying to protect their domain territory so others don't use something similar and 2)they may want to use the names in the future for future ventures.
Domain names are becoming more and more valuable and much rarer as many, many entreprenuers grab them to take their place in the internet commerce boom.
It seems a very prudent idea and good business to subscribe to domains while a Company can still get them.
