Tom,

Welcome. I've found that a lot of people who don't like reading SF don't because they feel the writers become too technical ... ie, detailing the workings of all the components of the Starship Enterprise.

I introduced my wife to the "juvenile" novels of Robert A. Heinlein and she found them to be very entertaining and easy to read. May I suggest: Tunnel in the Sky, The Rolling Stones, Podykane from Mars, etc by Heinlein.

As for short stories, I never could read them because I always wanted more. I want epics. I want series. But hey, that's just me! LOL
