Morning All. Stem cell research general note from USA Today.

Shalala: Stem cell research will proceed
WASHINGTON - Federal scientists will continue planning research using human stem cells, despite arguments by members of Congress that the studies would violate a federal ban, Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala said Tuesday. Stem cells are basic biological building blocks. One type, called pluripotent stem cells, can create any organ or tissue. Scientists say that by guiding growth of these cells, it might be possible to replace ailing hearts, to treat brain disease or injury or to cure diabetes. Privately funded researchers recently, for the first time, isolated pluripotent stem cells from human embryos and fetuses. The cells are now maintained in laboratory cultures.
