With respect to your statement that "we benefited probably the most" from the Marshall Plan: I hope your calculus includes the cost to the American taxpayer- and the lingering debt it imposed. Due consideration must be given to forgone opportunities, as well as the consequences of government allocation of capital. That calculation would not be a trivial one.

To keep this on topic, I'll note that the implication is that Asian economies would be better off allowing the free flow of capital and permitting free minds and free markets to determine wages. Unions may have a role- some of which have been described on this thread. Unions using government's to work their will may benefit politically influential workers, at the expense of those without the benefits bestowed by politicians.
