and Technology Agreement With Vignette
Corporation

Delivering Best-of-Breed Solution for Merchandising-Centric Businesses

BURLINGTON, Mass., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Open Market, Inc.
(Nasdaq: OMKT), a leading provider of Internet commerce and
information publishing software, today announced a joint marketing and
technology agreement with Vignette Corporation (Nasdaq: VIGN), a
leading provider of Internet Relationship Management (IRM) software
products and services. This collaboration combines Open Market's
award-winning Internet commerce solution, Transact(TM), with Vignette's
StoryServer(TM) 4, the industry's leading Web application system for
managing relationships throughout the entire online customer lifecycle.

Under the terms of the agreement, Open Market and Vignette will jointly
develop and market an extension toolkit which will primarily serve to
expedite deployment and accelerate time to market of the complete "best of
breed" Internet Relationship Management and order management solution.
This combined solution will help online businesses customize their offerings
to each customer's preferences and then provide robust order management,
scalable transaction processing, and customer service capabilities.

One of the first customers to take advantage of the combined solution is The
Yucaipa Companies, an investment firm that recently made headlines after
announcing the $20 billion merger between Fred Meyer Inc. and Kroger
Co. and plans for an electronic commerce destination due out later this year.
According to Richard Wolpert, partner in charge of The Yucaipa
Companies Internet and technology ventures, "The combined solution
provided by Open Market and Vignette puts our online initiatives on the
cutting edge as the future of electronic commerce is turning away from the
stale, catalog style commerce to a more entertaining and dynamic
environment. This partnership provides us with the level of sophistication we
need for Internet Relationship Management and transaction management."

"The Vignette/Open Market partnership will deliver the best-of-breed
Internet Relationship Management solutions and Internet commerce system
to the marketplace," said Gary Eichhorn, president and CEO of Open
Market, Inc. "Customers are demanding deep functionality in both content
and commerce to achieve online business success."

"We chose to partner with Open Market because they truly understand the
requirements for successful Internet commerce," said Greg Peters, president
and CEO, Vignette Corporation. "We believe, our customers will now be

components of Internet Relationship Management including content
management, lifecycle personalization, and decision support with complete
