NO. You are right. We could and should do a lot better. I'm no apologist for Bill Gates, but spreading around his wealth is no solution.

By giving everyone in the lowest 40% of society a one time $600/$700 dollars to spend is no solution to anything.

As long as Bill Gates is not consuming outlandishly, and if he leaves his fortune to a public trust of some kind, as he has promised, his wealth is not meaningful. It is paper wealth, in effect, where Bill Gates has full authority to manage. Better him, than some silver tongued politician.
